INFORMATION  MANAGEMENT


The Documentation Centre
, forms a section of the Information Services Division of the Scientific Research Council (SRC). It is the National Focal Point for Scientific and Technological Information from national, regional and international sources eg. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Tropical Products Institute (TPI), U.S. National Technical Information Service (NTIS), and the Commonwealth Science Council (CSC).

The Centre provides a reference library service to staff and the public in general. It has holdings of over 13,000 books, over 40 journal titles. In addition there are newsletters, computer databases, a small audio/video cassette collection, Science and Technology (S&T) related photographs, S&T newspaper clippings and other special collections. The Centre is the Focal Point for the local Scientific and Technical Information Network (STIN) comprising over 20 active library and Information Units. The Centre is also a member of the Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA) formally Jamaica Library Association (JLA).

The Documentation Centre carries a wide assortment of information with emphasis on the provision of S&T information, especially in the areas of - Food Technology, Product Development, Natural Products, Waste Management, Tissue Culture, Energy, Artemia and Industrial Chemistry. Special tools are available in the Documentation Centre to assist users with accessing bibliographic and non-bibliographic information. They are as follows: - A Union List of Serials in S & T, Skills Bank – a directory of available expertise in S&T in Jamaica, A STIN Joint Accessions List and the Scientific Research Council Quarterly Accessions List.

The Centre offers the following services: - reference, photocopying, referral switching, inter-library loans, Internet.

The opening hours of the Documentation Centre are:

Mondays to Thursdays from
9:00 am - 5:00 pm,
Fridays from
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
