MANAGEMENT TEAM
Each Division of the SRC
is led by a Manager that is supported by Team Leaders
and a cadre of competent, technical and administrative
staff. The Management Team embraces the principles of
transformational leadership and quality management systems.
Dr. Audia Barnett - Executive
Director
The Board of Directors of the Scientific Research Council
(SRC) appointed Dr. Audia Barnett as Executive Director
of the SRC on February 1, 2002. Dr. Barnett is a graduate
of the University of the West Indies (UWI), and holds
a B.Sc. in degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry, and
a M.Sc. degree in Food Science from the University of
Alberta, Canada. Her interest in Biotechnology and its
influence in the Life and Natural Sciences directed
her to do further studies which culminated in a Ph.D.
(Chemistry) from the University of the West Indies.
She served as Research Fellow at the MIGAL Galilee Technological
Centre (Israel) and the Agrotechnological Research Institute
(The Netherlands).
Dr. Barnett’s role as SRC’s
Executive Director includes promoting the use of Science
and Technology for sustainable growth and development
nationally. She is expected to provide dynamic leadership
that will sharpen the focus and harmonize activities
of the SRC as well as forge strategic linkages with
private sector, academia, other public sector and international
organizations.
Prior to taking up her appointment as
Executive Director for the SRC, Dr. Barnett was the
Executive Director for the National Commission on Science
and Technology Secretariat. Dr. Barnett has extensive
experience in Food Science and Technology, having served
as Adjunct lecturer at the University of the West Indies,
as well as Consultant to the Food Industry for many
years. She is currently the Focal Point for the Inter-Governmental
Committee for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. Convenor
of the Food Safety Subcommittee of the National Food
and Nutrition Committee of Jamaica, Vice-President of
the Jamaica Society of Scientists and Technologists,
she is also a Professional Member of the Institute of
Food Technologists. Dr. Barnett has the distinction
of being a Fellow of the prestigious Americas 2000 Project.
She is married with two sons.
